African Climate Summit 2023

Our first year student Omnia from Sudan stepped up during one of our assemblies to share her perspective on the African Climate Summit 2023 and why it is important that we take time to acknowledge its results.

The summit was aimed at championing a positive climate compatible vision of Africa, addressing the increasing exposure to climate change and its associated costs, both globally and particularly on the African continent.

Approximately 30,000 delegates participated, including 18 heads of different African states, the secretary-general of the United Nations and the President of the European Union. The key outcomes of the conference are as follows:

  1. More financing and reforms needed to unlock Africa’s renewable energy potential
  2. Taking a common position towards the climate discourse for the African continent and commitment to turning Africa into a green industrial hub that can play a key role in achieving global net zero goals
  3. Less talk, more action

Thank you Omnia for bringing this to our attention and for spreading hope of more action surrounding the climate crisis.
